There are times when a movie made from pure genius; let me tell you this is one of those it seems. Once you get passed the first few seconds it is on; it is like listening to a song and hating it, and then they drop the beat and you go butt-ass-wild. The moment the trailer picked up I almost wet myself. Then at the end I almost shit my pants from laughter. This is one of those you have to check out for yourself so enjoy.

The Story

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane brings his boundary-pushing brand of humor to the big screen for the first time as writer, director and voice star of Ted.

In the live action/CG-animated comedy, he tells the story of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), a grown man who must deal with the cherished teddy bear who came to life as the result of a childhood wish…and has refused to leave his side ever since.

Summer time for many anime fans is almost here, and that means a break from school. That also means there will be a void from a lack of endless assignments and studying. First, fun in the sun and then fun thanks to the land of the rising sun; the day time is meant for sleeping under the shade of your favorite tree or eating watermelons to cool off from the heat at the beach, but the night is relinquished to watching anime.

There are endless series to watch, from on going series to those that have already climaxed. How can good anime fan sort through all that is out to pick just a couple to fit into their busy schedules? Well, if you are like me you look through endless countdowns and ask friends for advice but even then there are too for just one summer of nights.

The are a few rules to follow if want to fit in as much as possible into the small amount of time given to you.

• Don’t pick a series with more than 30 episodes per season.(Don’t give up your summer to being inside.)
• Stay away from on going series.(You’ll be able to follow those at your regular scheduled time)
• Never pick the top 3 on any countdown/list.(You probably already saw them anyways.)
• Do your homework during the winter.(Look at trailers and even watch the first episode to see if you like it.)
• PLAN, PLAN, PLAN!(Set a time you’ll begin watching like 10pm-12am and stock up on drinks/snacks.)

We all love anime but sometimes we need more; manga is the answer to that need. With usually only a week to a month wait for a new issue, it sure beats the months to years wait with anime. Right now there are hundreds of unread gems out there waiting for a reader. Manga usually carries more details in their pages than an entire episode of an anime with no worries when a break comes along because you can simply read another manga. There are no pointless filer arcs just the pure untainted story.

While surfing the web for some cool, interesting posters to decorate my new office with I came across these beauties. A collection of what some lucky few got to buy before the big meanies at DC Comics forced the creator to stop selling them.

The vintage posters were made by Drawsgood, an artist with some talent for the strange and vintage look. Although his DC Posters are no longer, he still has several other designs that you can purchase. A little tip for the comic book fan and tech junky; these still make nice wallpapers to have for smartphones and tablets.

Copyright issues have been a hot topic lately. Protecting intellectual rights of the rightful owners is a must, but no one government or company should have say on what is a violation without due process. It is a matter that should be left up to the proper courts and after careful examination of the specific case be judged legal or not legal; That would be enough but the issue is judges in our current time are too old and technologically ignorant to rule properly. Old laws don’t work anymore and so new laws need to be created by those who know how does laws impact the situation.

The wait is almost over; for comic book fans anyways. When old becomes new. what once was great for an old generation can be made great for a new generation. A new series of comics explaining what happened to each hero before they formed the WATCHMEN will be arriving soon.

This is one of times where you have been waiting and waiting but the wait is over. The latest and full trailer for the Dark Knight Rises is hear revealing a much darker and more intense story. With Bain as the lead villain you can expect a lot of death and this trailer does not disappoint. Here is your early Christmas present, enjoy.

PREVIOUS LIST…PART I

The dream of having super powers and saving the day is a very common one. Both kids and adults fantasize about this. Comics capture those dreams and fantasies into pictures on a page and to give us a glimpse at a universe where the common man can become a superhero. In the Marvel universe your everyday superhero is Iron Man, Tony Stark as he is also known as; Tony is a genius who creates a suit of armor that allows him to become Iron Man. He is a billionaire playboy with some minor character flaws that saves the world on a regular basis. On the other side of comics, in the DC universe, you have Batman; Batman is Bruce Wayne, a majorly traumatized rich kid who grew up to have a superhero complex that saves a city and occasionally the world when the sun goes down. These characters are both strong and courageous but have some major differences that set them apart.

Firstly, Marvel is more than just a brand. It is a universe filled with not just a couple heroes but hundreds of legends like the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Iron Man. Iron Man was created early on in the Marvel universe and has been a part of every major event that has happened since its inception. He quickly rose to fame due to his flaws and qualities that were easily identifiable with. He was your everyday man armed with just his great mind. With that gift he managed to create a way for him to stand as tall as any of the other legends in the Marvel world such as Spider-man and the super soldier, Captain America. This is no easy task because the Marvel world is ever growing and contains hundreds of memorable characters from Cyclops in the X-men to the Thing from the Fantastic Four. There is not one person out there that does not know at least a couple of these Marvel heroes.

From the beginning, Tony Stark was more than your average spoiled kid. He was bright and motivated creating works or technological art that made him millions. At a young age Tony showed promise but as he grew older he squandered that promise in a misguided life of women, and drinking. This was all about to change though due to an incident where he almost lost his life and had to have a pacemaker of sorts put in; his moral compass and sense of responsibility were born anew. It was like a switch flipped and a humanitarian was born from the ashes of a spoiled child. Tony started out as a troubled drinker, and son to a war monger but over time learned what it meant to be a hero. This is when the man named Tony became Iron Man that a legend was created.

Tony Stark, the hero with a conscious, did not start off with any special powers to combat abilities like the power to absorb kinetic energy or to control all metal through the power of magnetism. Yet, he still has managed to apprehend numerous super villains and save countless number of civilians, and he manages all this while wearing a suit the entire time. This is no ordinary suit of iron he wears; it is not made out of iron at all but a poly-titanium blend of his own brilliant design. Even the name of the metal it is made of sounds smooth and strong. This suit manages to give him an almost impenetrable protection from anything the bad guys can throw at him, be it a punch from the Hulk, a genetically super strong green giant, or a pumpkin bomb tossed by the Green Goblin, a demented man with a fetish for creepy Halloween costumes.  Not only can his suit protect him but it also serves as his own personal pacemaker battery pack allowing it to be useful and stylish but convenient as well.

Iron Man’s armor manages to showcase his true power as a super hero while exemplifying his brilliance. Stark is a genius among geniuses. As a kid he was creating robotics and technologies no one had ever dreamed were possible, and as an adult he even discovered his own element. Later on, he created a suit of armor that turned him into a hero. There is not a problem his intelligence cannot get him out of or aid others with. Everyone from the X-men to Captain America view Tony as figure to admire and a person to seek for guidance from.

While personal achievement is important, being able to play well with others is just as pertinent and sometimes best learned in stages such as acquiring a partner before joining a team. The man of iron had himself great partner, War Machine, also known as James Rhodes. He is not only Tony’s best friend but his sidekick for a while. War Machine is a soldier with many years in combat and is well trained and capable of handling the most intense of situations such as a fire fight being surrounded by insurgents shooting rockets. He wears an original model of the Iron Man prototype armor with a little added armament. These added armaments are not just for show and aid in the apprehension and annihilation of dozens of enemies at once at times. War Machine manages to be on par with Iron Man himself as a hero especially since he was actually Iron Man for a short while and has saved Tony on several occasions.

After learning to work with a partner, the next logical step in learning to play well with others was joining a team. Just like any regular person sometimes assistance may be required and when just a partner is not enough a team is needed; for Iron Man that team was Nick Fury’s creation the Avengers. A team made up of the best that Marvel has to offer. The original team was comprised of Captain America, Ant-Man, Wasp, Thor, the Hulk, and of course Iron Man as their leader. All of which on their own were not just heroes but legends (except for Ant-Man and wasp), saving the world dozens of times each. Iron Man’s team may have changed several times over the Avengers history but one constant was Iron Man and his ability to be a great leader. Whenever there was a problem too great for any one hero to tackle alone they all pitched in to get the job done. The Avengers was more than just a team. It was a symbol in the Marvel universe for what the best of the best heroes were supposed to be like.

Just like with a coin there are two sides to sides to the comic industry. If Marvel comics is heads then DC comics would be tails. DC is a world filled with a few vigilantes, and overly powered idealistic heroes with a handful of champions. Batman was one of the first in the DC universe to acquire some level of fame besides Superman, the embodiment of the unrealistic hero. The DC universe stands for the other side and is all about heroes with powers that are unrivaled making their heroes untouchable by most villains. Batman is merely one of a handful of characters that because he followed the recipe of the average man with no powers as a hero, managed to be relatable. DC is littered with heroes with little personality but at least they were powerful like the unbeatable, Superman; the uncatchable, Flash; or the unstoppable amazon, Wonder Woman. It is a world of pure fantasy.

Just like previously stated, an origin helps in the development of a good crime fighter. Batman was not always a hero. First, he was a child named Bruce Wayne. Bruce was your typical well groomed, clingy youth. He was naive and inquisitive for most of his childhood as most rich kids were. One day his parents were gunned down, and he went into a training state of mind where all he could think of was a way to make his life have meaning and stop what happened to him from happening to others. In a rich person fashion, he ran away and spent years training all over the world with the best people money could buy. Later, he came back to his home city, Gotham, where he wanted to start making a difference. He used his family money to buy the most advance computers, most expensive gadgets, and a costume fit for a tick or treater with some small add-ons. Now this is where heroes are made. In the gym, trained by professionals and equipped with the best gadgets family money can buy. This is a testament to hard work and struggle. From the comfort of his palace, Batman was designed and crafted into a night time detective.

Batman, the vigilante with a vengeance, was born also without any kind of powers but manages to defeat people like Poison Ivy with the ability to talk to plants and wearing green slutty outfits, or Bain with his ability of being on super steroids and working out. Batman manages to do this all along while wearing tights and a cape. Yes, Bruce Wayne may get to wear expensive suits and million dollar accessories but as Batman he gets a bullet proof vest and a mask with big pointy ears. No one seems to mind; as a matter of fact, he strikes fear into your common street thug when he surprises them in dark allies. His outfit is a handy costume that leaves him bruised and sore the morning after from all the hits he takes.

Batman does display his ability to spend years traveling all over the world with his billions of dollars to train with the greatest martial artist in the world by surprising untrained criminals with a punch to the face or a kick to the gut quite well. Although smart, he simply uses his years of experience with trainers to dress up and scurry on the roof tops watching to see if any crimes are being committed or snoops in on police chatter. People call him a great detective; if there is ice everywhere, it was Mr. Freeze; if there are vines falling from the ceiling, it was Poison Ivy; if there are dead bodies it is usually the Joker or Bain depending on the force used to kill the victims.  He does save time by having to invent anything he uses; instead, he simply paints it black and tags on bat to the front like the “bat a rangs”.

The night stalking vigilante does have a decent side kick though. Dick Grayson, or the first Robin that would also be known as Nightwing, was the first but not the last in a series of partners. Robin is a circus boy orphaned by Two Face after an incident that left his family dead. Dick lacks all the training Batman has, but he can still handle his own in the middle of a fight with a bunch of street hooligans; he can even occasionally take on a major villain with help from a team. Robin also wears a colorful costume with tights and a cape that helps him stand out by making his presence obvious to anyone who is not color blind. All other Robins that followed were the exact same; they lacked any formal training prior to and fight crime by using their gymnastics to make the enemy stumble and fumble till he can get his knockout punch in.

While DC is not known for their team ups, Batman did manage to have his own team. The Justice League which was less of a team and more of an association you joined if you were a hero. There were your basic members Superman, who basically saved the day alone anyways; wonder Woman who never liked working with the team and was really ever seen or heard from; then there was the flash who was also a team player. He was too childish to ever completely be useful and mostly got in the way; finally, there was Batman who exemplifies the lone wolf archetype. Batman usually ended up working alone anyways. The entire group dynamics of the Justice League seem to baffle yet intrigue readers since they were not really much of a team but just showed up to have group meetings to make sure everyone knew what was going. It was more like a superhero union.

Lastly and most importantly, there is the fact that Iron Man stands on his own as a champion while Batman simply stands as an archetype for the hero who wants to be epic. Men that become heroes and heroes than can become legends are two very different things. In the comic world this is what sets apart Iron Man from Batman. Batman may be smart, brave and athletic but he is just another hero in a lake of forgotten, faceless heroes. While, Iron Man is brilliant, in good company, well-armed, and is a legend in an ocean of prominent, well known champions. Iron Man has by far has the most memorable qualities of a hero in both the DC and Marvel universe separately and even combined.
