The time has come for the official return of what has been lead to be believed by most as the year’s ultimate event for gaming news. The event where new generation consoles are unveiled and games are put on display to cause the drooling effect a toddler gets when he sees a large pair of breasts. E3 2012 is here and as expected there were more smoke and sparks than fireworks during the show. Sure there were the occasional surprises but it has become apparent developers and publishers have lost sight of what is most important and that is the games; a majority of the games showed were unoriginal shooters and the rest were announcements best left for a Tuesday in February than E3.
Do not fear though there were some shinning rays of hope peeking through the shit storm that has become the convention. Over the next week we here will sift through the storm of stuff no one cared to know and find the silver lining that is the games we might actually like to play. This may be a hard task since a majority of the news coming from companies are just reboots and repeats,; again , do not fear because there was some riotous news in there too.

Tomb Raider explores the intense and gritty origin story of Lara Croft and her ascent from a frightened young woman to a hardened survivor. Setting out to “make [her] mark”, the ship Lara travels on, the Endurance commanded by Conrad Roth, is hit by a violent storm and split in two. She and many other survivors are stranded on an isolated tropical island in the Dragon’s Triangle. She awakes inside a coastal cave, beside other corpses. In the process of escaping, she is wounded, finds one of her fellow travelers dead in a ritualistic pose, and has to fight off a mysterious human figure who is killed as the cave collapses. After escaping, Lara has to find food and water to survive, fighting off the more dangerous animal inhabitants and trying to trace the other survivors. But a darker threat awaits as she is forced to harden herself against killing people in order to fight a group of malevolent mercenaries who seek to kill her and her companions…
The game is set in a parallel universe in the Devil May Cry series. The story tells of teenager Dante and his journey through the fictitious Limbo City, a dreary city that appears calm at first, but transforms into a twisted parody of itself with demons and other monstrosities who frequently attempt to kill him whenever he is caught in the sight of one of the city’s demonic security cameras
The Riotous
- Watch Dogs
- PlayStation® All-Stars Battle Royale
- Beyond: Two Souls
- The Last of Us
The main story is set in Chicago, Illinois during the 2010s[4] and revolves around a man named Aiden Pearce, who has breached into Chicago’s “ctOS” (Central Operating System), a centralized computer system which controls almost every piece of technology in the city, and contains information on all of the city’s residents which can be used for various purposes.
The gameplay is conceptually similar to the Super Smash Bros. series, in which up to four players can battle each other using characters from various PlayStation franchises such as God of War, PaRappa the Rapper and Sly Cooper. There are, however, differences in how opponents are defeated. During the game, players damage other players to receive orbs that build up a power meter at the bottom of the screen. Earning enough power allows players to use one of three levels of super moves which can be used to defeat opponents and earn points. Arenas are also inspired by various PlayStation titles, with some areas mashing up two titles into one. The game will feature cross-platform play between the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions.
The game is centered around questions about what happens after death. The game lets the player take Jodie Holmes through 15 years of her life on a journey to discover what is the true meaning of the entity alongside her throughout the story. The game’s producer noted that players might be able to find out “what lies beyond” after playing the game. The game features a dark graphical style, in the vein of Heavy Rain.
The main characters in the game, Ellie and Joel, are played by Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, respectively. Joel is a “ruthless” survivor and Ellie is a 14-year-old girl who is wise beyond her years, but is too young to remember the world as it once was.
The game will start in post-apocalyptic Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and slowly move its way out of the city to other unannounced areas. It is suggested that survival will involve both killing and scavenging
